Losses among the civilian population in Ukraine as of 8:00 on March 29

As of 8:00 a.m. on March 29, 2022, during the past 24 hours,21 civilians had been killed due to Russian invasion, including 2 children (excluding all victims in Mariupol, Volnovakha, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Sumy, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions). 29 people were injured, including 2 children. 4 civilians were captured, and a total more than 60 civilians were kidnapped or were taken prisoner by the Russian troops, they are mostly journalists, local government officials of the occupied settlements and the Ukrainian activists as well.

Children:

As of March 29, due to Russia’s full-scale invasion against the population of Ukraine, 143 children were killed and 216 were wounded, according to the data of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

Two Ukrainian journalists were captured by the Russian troops:

  1. In Kyiv region the Russian troops kidnapped the journalist of the Ukrainian informational agency “UNIAN” – Dmytro Khyluik.
  2. In Zaporizhzhya region the Russian invaders captured a well-known local journalist Iryna Dubchenko. She was staying countryside Rozivka and taking care about her old grandma. 

Two civilians were captured by the Russian troops in the occupied settlements:

 1. In Hola Pristan (Kherson region) the Russian military kidnapped the mayor of the town – Oleksandr Babych.

2. In Melitopol (Zaporizhzhia region) – the Russian invaders kidnapped Iryna Shcherbak – the Head of the Education department of the Melitopol City Council. She refused to interact with the Russian occupiers and to implement the Russian education programme. 

SAVE Mariupol:

The city remains under the complete blockade by the Russian troops. About 5000 residents had died yet, among them 210 children. Such preliminary data was given by the city mayor – Boychenko. At the moment approximately 170000 residents are staying in Mariupol. They are under complete blockade. The city needs a humanitarian truce and overall evacuation of the inhabitants, who are still staying in the city. Otherwise, all residents are threatened with death – no water, electricity, heating, food and medicine.

Also Boychenko said that 90% of the buildings were damaged or destroyed, including 57 schools, 70 kindergartens, 7 Universities, 11 hospitals and 3 maternity hospitals.   

SAVE Chernihiv:

Chernihiv remains under the complete blockade by the Russian invaders. The humanitarian catastrophe is in the city – water, heating, electricity, medicine are absent. Everyday approximately 30-40 wounded residents are brought at two hospitals. However, local doctors can not provide them all the necessary help. The city’s hospitals are in a critical situation – there is a lack of medicines, the hospitals’ buildings are without heating. The Russian occupiers blew up the bridge across the Desna, which connected Chernihiv with the road to Kyiv. The Russian military is blocking a deliverance of any humanitarian aid, shelling on every humanitarian convoys. On March 28, the Russian military shelled the volunteers near Chernihiv who were trying to bring the humanitarian aid to the city’s residents, including medical supplies and medical devices. Several volunteers were injured and humanitarian aid was destroyed. The day before, the Russian military shelled a humanitarian convoy accompanied by Ruslan Martsinkiv, the mayor of the Ukrainian city Ivano-Frankivsk. Several volunteers were also wounded under the shelling. It is estimated that about 160,000 people remain in the city.  

Losses of civilians in different regions and settlements of Ukraine:

Kyiv region: 7 people were killed, 1 was injured.

Sofiyivska Borshchahivka (Kyiv region) – the Russian military launched an air strike at the residential neighborhood. 1 person died.

Slavutych (Kyiv region) – 3 civilians were killed by the shelling.

Irpin (Kyiv region) – Russian military killed 2 civilians – parents of Lviv Opera conductor Ivan Cherednichenko. It has also become known that on March 5, the Russian armoured fighting vehicle shelled a civilian car, in which local residents were carrying generators for de-energized houses. One person was killed and 1 was injured.

Donetsk region: 1 person was killed, 4 were injured.

Mariupol – 1 person was killed and 1 civilian was injured under the shelling (incomplete information).

Marinka – 1 person was injured.

Novomykhailivka – 1 person was injured under the shelling.

Volnovakha – Bishop of Volnovakha of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Russian Patriarchate was wounded. The Russian military shelled a monastery near Volnovakha.

Zhytomyr region: 3 people died.

Ovruch (Zhytomyr region) – the Russian army launched an air strike on residential houses. 3 civilians were killed.

Zaporizhzhia region: 2 civilians were injured, including 1 child (information is being claryfied).

Gulyaipole (Zaporizhzhia region) – 1 civilian was wounded under the shelling of a residential houses by the Russian troops.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, the Russian military shelled an evacuation convoy of buses carrying people from Mariupol to Zaporozhizhia. Children were injured (number are being determined). 1 child are staying in a serious condition.

Luhansk region: 3 people died, 11 were injured (information is being clarified).

Severodonetsk (Luhansk region) – as a result of Russian shelling, 1 person was killed and 7 civilians were injured.

Rubizhne (Luhansk region) – the Russian military shelled on residential neighborhoods, 1 civilian was killed and 3 were injured.

Luhansk region – 1 person was killed and 1 was injured. The victims were registered in Bakhmut, Donetsk region.

Sumy region: 2 people died. 4 were injured, including a teenager.

Trostyanets (Sumy region) – Russian soldiers brutally tortured and then killed 1 civilian. He was found after the liberation of the city by the Ukrainian army. Two civilians were wounded.

Konotop (Sumy region) – at the highway near Konotop, a Russian tank ran into local residents walking along the road. It was a family – the father died (33 years old), mother and son (15 years old) were seriously injured.

Kharkiv region: 4 people died, including a teenager (16 years old). Wounded – 7.

Kharkiv – The Russian military shelled on the famous Kharkiv Aviation University, injuring one person.

Lyubotyn (Kharkiv region) – the Russian troops carried out artillery strikes on residential neighborhoods, killing one and wounding two civilians.

Oskil (Izium district, Kharkiv region) – 3 civilians were killed under the Russian shelling, including one teenager (16 years old) and 4 people were injured.

Kherson region: a boy (15 years old) died.
