Losses among the civilian population in Ukraine as of 8:00 on April 21

As of 8:00 a.m. on April 21, 2022, during the last 24 hours, 175 civilians had been killed due to the Russian invasion, among them 1 child. Including 112 killed civilians, whom were found under the rubble in Kharkiv (excluding all victims in Mariupol, Volnovakha, Kyiv, Luhansk, Kherson, Kharkiv regions). Furthermore, according to the official but still incomplete information 1045 killed civilians were identified in the Kyiv region.  13 people were injured.  2 civilians were captured, and totally more than 300 civilians were kidnapped by the Russian troops, they are mostly journalists, local government officials of the occupied settlements, the Ukrainian activists, teachers as well.

Children:

As of April 20, due to the Russian full-scale invasion against the population of Ukraine, 205 children were killed and 373 were wounded, according to the data of the Office of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine.   

Two civilians were captured by the Russian troops in the occupied settlements:

  1. In Melitopol (Zaporizhzhia region) – on April 19 the Russian military kidnapped a citizen of Israel – Ehor Petrenko. Currently his fate is unknown.
  2. In Osypenko community (Zaporizhzhia region) –  the Russian military kidnapped Oleh Budiak – the director of a local history museum.

According to the National Police of Ukraine in the Kyiv region, 1,045 bodies of killed civilians had been found and moved to forensic examination since the beginning of the Kyiv region’s deoccupation from the Russian troops. 75% of cvilians died from shotguns and sniper weapons. 25% of them had shrapnel wounds (artillery, mines, multiple launch rocket systems).

In Mariupol, a woman died – Wanda Obyedkova, who survived the Nazi occupation 81 years ago, but did not survive the Russians… The woman was 91 years old, she was hiding from the Russian occupiers in the same basement as during the German occupation. This statement was made by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum. Wanda Obyedkova survived the Holocaust, but died from exhaustion in the basement of the house during the Russian blockade of Mariupol. The woman was suffering from cold, starvation and thirst. In Kharkiv, 112 bodies were raised from the rubble. The search of the victims was finished under 40 buildings that were destroyed or damaged by the Russian air strikes, multiple launch systems and artillery.

Losses of civilians in different regions and settlements of Ukraine:

Kyiv region: 54 civilians were killed, including 1 child. (incomplete information)

Borodianka (Kyiv region) – 41 civilians killed during the Russian occupation were found under the rubble. The family (3 people) of a well-known Ukrainian educator Mark Bobrovsky was also killed in the shelling. 9 corpses were found in two mass graves, including a 14-year-old girl and a headless man who had been moved by a tank.

Krasne (Kyiv region) – the corpse of a brutally murdered man was found.

Donetsk region: 6 people died. 10 civilians were injured.

Avdiivka (Donetsk region) – due to the Russian air and artillery shelling 3 people were killed and 6 civilians were injured.

Kramatorsk, Pokrovsk (Donetsk region) – 1 civilian was injured.

Vuhledar (Donetsk region) – 2 people were injured in the Russian shelling.

Lyman (Donetsk region) – 1 person was injured.

Pavlivka (Donetsk region) – 2 civilians were killed.

Luhansk region: 1 person was wounded; complete information is unavailable due to active hostilities in the most settlements.

Kharkiv region: 113 people died. Wounded – 1.

Kharkiv – 112 bodies were found under the rubble of the residential buildings. Rescuers have completed search under 40 residential buildings. Also 1 woman died from heavy injuries.

Dovhenke (Luhansk region) – 1 civilian was injured.

Kherson region: 2 civilians were killed and 1 was injured.

Kherson – 1 person died.

Velyka Oleksandrivka (Kherson region) – 1 civilian was killed and 1 was wounded in the Russian shelling.
